| Leaders
in green building in Austin, Texas, and active members of the
City of Austin Green
Building Program since 1992, Images
Of... has completed four five-star rated homes, most recently the Kennedy Residence,
the third house that architect, Elliot Johnson, AIA has designed for
Paul and
Teresa Kennedy. In addition, architectural drawings for six
additional five-star residences have been finalized including the
Tocco
Residence and the Hanson Residence. (Only 35 homes have been
rated five-star during the last eight years.) 2007 turned out to be another exciting year. Elliot Johnson, AIA, was selected by a new sustainable production builder, Green Builders, in Austin to be their Green Sciences Consultant. Green Builders will be one of the first production builders to build only five-star rated homes, their ultimate goal to builder 600-1,000 green homes a year. The homes will also be rated through the EPA's Energy Star program. Georgetown to get first Green subdivision (Austin American-Statesman) Builder Concentrates on Green Homes and Communities (AIA Architect) The New Year promises to be equally excited. Late in 2007, Images Of... was selected to design two homes for the upcoming HBA Parade of Homes. This Parade of homes is unique. With assitance from Elliot Johnson, AIA, the HBA and the community of Rough Hollow committed to doing the first Austin HBA Parade of homes that will feature six, five-star rated homes. In Late 2008 Images Of... will be featured in an issue of Natural Home, as well as being featured in a book about Green Built Homes, to be published by Random House. |

| Why
build Green? |

| Information Pages Consumer Reports |
Green building attempts to construct homes
that are energy efficient, healthy, neighborhood conscious, and
environmentally friendly. Sustainability makes environmental
sense.
However, personal circumstances, desires and goals provide the
foundation for each project, and budget is a primary consideration.
Green
building does not necessitate greater cost. Although upfront
costs are sometimes greater for green features, cost savings accumulate
quickly. Images Of... has extensive knowledge and experience in providing 'green' recommendations that work. We know what techniques have proven track records demonstrating environmental savings, while being cost effective and long lasting. And we know the difference between materials and techniques that sound environmentally sensitive, but are ineffective, and those that truly provide a sustainable solution. Principal, Elliot H. Johnson attends relevant seminars and workshops regularly to keep abreast of new and improved green building techniques and practices. Sustainable and green building principles and practices truly inspire our work. We actively encourage use of innovative building methods and materials particularly Rammed Earth and Integrated Concrete Forms (ICF's), as well as Rainwater Harveting. Educating our clients on the options available enables us to incorporate the green features which best meet the client's goals, vision and budget.Green Features
A number of green features are incorporated into our designs including: |
What is a five-star green building
project? The City of Austin Green Building Program
rates residences from one to five stars, a five-star rating reflecting
optimal adherence to sustainability. (At the time the
Demers Residence
was rated, four-star was the highest rating.)
Images Of... rates each building project at
no cost according to the
City of Austin Green Building Program standards. Determining "how
green" your home is gives you confidence in your contribution to
protecting the environment and can be attractive to more
environmentally sensitive consumers when selling your home.
For an example of the characteristics of a five-star green building project see: anatomy of a green building. ![]() |

| Cast
Earth Elliot Johnson, is pioneering
the use of "Cast
Earth" construction in Austin. The first two "Cast Earth" homes
in Austin are complete, both rated five-star by
the City of Austin Green Building Program (The Cope
Residence completed June
2005 and the
Johnson/Chronister Residence completed December
2005). Construction of our third completed "Cast Earth" house design, the Schlageter
Residence
is on hold.
Cast Earth, similar to Rammed
Earth, produces an
18"-24" thick earthen wall with less labor and expense than Rammed
Earth, yet producing an equally attractive exterior.
